About Hong Kong
Hong Kong is a vibrant metropolis in south-eastern China, boasting a stunning skyline set against the natural beauty of surrounding national parks and mountains which are just a short hop away – a great escape for nature lovers, solo travellers and adventure seekers. Foodies will also love the tasty local delicacies on offer and if shopping is your thing you won’t be short on options.
Opt for a Hong Kong youth hostel in one of the central districts to be within walking distance of famous street markets and nightlife, or stay on one of the islands for more breathing space. Hostels in Hong Kong include a creative’s hub filled with vintage furniture or a high tech, fully automated capsule youth hostel. Most Hong Kong hostels come with free Wi-Fi and some have roof terraces so you can make the most of those spectacular views over the city.
In Central Hong Kong you’ll find Lan Kwai Fong - the place to party and with more than 100 bars to pick from there is plenty of choices whatever your vibe. Hipsters should head to Sheung Wan for street art, coffee shops and trendy food spots. For a more traditional Hong Kong experience, head over to Jordon on Kowloon to explore bustling alleyways and street food stalls, while Mong Kok is the place to practise haggling skills at one of the many markets.
Soak up the city views from Victoria Peak, the highest point on Hong Kong Island. Take the historic tram for the scenic (and easiest) way to the top. When the sun sets, head to Victoria Harbour around 8pm to see the city light up with a dazzling light show. The famous Central Mid-Level escalators are a must too, boasting the world’s longest outdoor covered escalators. Find inner Zen from the hustle and bustle in Man Mo Temple or Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery in the countryside.
Exploring Hong Kong is easy with one of the world’s safest and most efficient public transport systems. The Mass Transit Railway is the easiest way around, connecting most of the islands. The rest are serviced by frequent ferries. From Hong Kong International Airport the train is 25 minutes to Hong Kong station in the centre or for a cheaper but slower option there are plenty of public bus routes to get you to your youth hostel.
